Mas Colom is a one-of-a-kind structure, just one kilometer from my hometown of Tàrrega. Archaeologists have discovered conclusive evidence of human settlement dating back 2,500 years to the Iberian period. In the late 19th century, it was transformed into a convent that sheltered monks fleeing the turmoil of the French Revolution. At the turn of the 20th century, these monks constructed a neogothic building, but by the 1920s, the complex lay abandoned. During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), Mas Colom was repurposed as a military hospital. In the post-war era, local olive oil producers, the Pont family, acquired the property. A restoration project is now underway to transform the building into an educational center showcasing the production of olive oil and nuts.
