Marvin (paranoid android - head and neck only)

I think you ought to know... he's still feeling very depressed. This is my attempt to create a model of Marvin's head, from the BBC Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy TV series (not the film). I couldn't find what I was looking for on the Internet, so I had a go myself. 15-01-2021 - The original files and pictures have been removed, as the design has improved since then. Please note that this model is NOT accurate. It was done by guesswork, looking at pictures of Marvin downloaded from various sources (and the BBC DVD of the series). Some things are not quite right. 17-01-2021 - Updated again - more pictures added, plus another model (LED support) added. Text amended. I've uploaded four files. There are two are slightly different versions of the head part, one with normal eyes and the other with hollowed-out eye holes. The base (neck) part has an incomplete hole (to be drilled out if needed) to allow for wires to exit the back of the model (see below). Both head parts are partly hollow. The latest addition is a piece to fit inside the head to support LEDs in the eyes (see below). The head model with the eyes hollowed out is to allow for the eyes to be illuminated (the original BBC model had eyes that lit up). I've fitted two yellow LEDs (see pictures). I've used ordinary 5mm yellow LEDs, with a 1K Ohm resistor in series with each, to run from a 12V DC supply. The LED assembly is glued in place using ABS glue (scrap ABS + acetone). Don't use too much glue, otherwise it might splurge into the eye holes. Printing - my prints were done using a modified Rostock Max V2. Printing temperatures for ABS... 110 degrees for the bed and 240 degrees for the nozzle (Centigrade). Speed was about 65mm/s (edges printed slower). Cooling is needed for the small LED mounting part. Layer height was 0.15mm. The prints in the photos were made using home-made ABS filament (poor tolerances) and a 0.4mm nozzle. No supports are needed on the inside of the head but some will be needed on the outside. None were used on the base part. No supports are needed for the eye holes. 20-01-2021 - Eyes now have red filters added (photo uploaded). These are thin red filter plastic, cut with a laser cutter. Pinshape won't let me upload the DWG file, so I'll just give you the lengths of the three sides of the triangles, which worked out as 19.889, 7.7015 and 20.041 mm (roughly). The overall height of the model is around 90mm. Good luck!
