Martian moons & Eros

thingiverse

The 3D models of Mars' moons Phobos and Deimos, as well as asteroid Eros, were derived from .3ds files used in the Celestia space program (http://www.shatters.net/celestia/). After being imported into Rhino3d v.4.0 and converted to STL format with careful adjustments for proper alignment to avoid support structures, these models were printed using a Makerbot. Notably, the Celestia models are low poly, making them easy to refine for better quality representations. These models are part of an ongoing project in collaboration with a local NASA office to create physical models based on elevation data from space probes and radar; future plans involve converting Hi-Rise DMT data into STL format to enhance the resolution of lunar and Martian terrain models, which will be shared as they are completed.
