Martenitsi (Bulgarian Baba Marta Tradition)
thingiverse
The Martenitsa is a cherished Bulgarian tradition - a small, symbolic token, typically crafted from intertwined white and red yarn, often taking the form of two endearing dolls, a man and a woman. Today, it can be any object showcasing vibrant red and white hues, secured to a matching string. Bulgarians wear Martenitsi from Baba Marta Day (March 1st) until they spot their first stork, swallow, or blooming tree - usually by late March. The festive name translates to "Grandma March" in Bulgarian, highlighting the connection between this holiday and welcoming the arrival of spring, which according to Bulgarian folklore commences in March. This treasured custom was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017. Check out my website at http://lokspace.eu for more captivating projects!
