Mars Rover: Opportunity/Spirit
thingiverse
I designed a scale model of the Spirit and Opportunity Mars rovers in Onshape as two separate pieces, the chassis and the solar array, and glued them together after printing. I uploaded both STL files for these components, along with an STL file showing the completed assembly. The wheels on this model all spin freely, while the wheel mounts also rotate, allowing it to move across a surface like an actual Mars rover. I tested it on some pebbles and found that it could easily drive over uneven terrain. The scope and camera attached to the solar array also rotate smoothly. Some details didn't print as well as I had hoped, so I enlarged them in the STL files that I uploaded for reference. I'm planning a new version of the solar array with more movable parts, including folding solar panels.
