Mars - Plagioclase Distribution
sketchfab
Mars topography, mapped by MOLA at 10 times its true scale, reveals areas where plagioclase was detected by the Thermal Emission Spectrometer on Mars Global Surveyor. Blue and purple hues indicate regions with little or no presence of this mineral, whereas green, yellow, and red shades denote increasing concentrations in that order. Since plagioclase is often found in basalts, we can combine this data with other mineral discoveries to gain a better understanding of the Martian surface composition.
