MARS MAKERBOT BASE
thingiverse
Constructed in space and launched from the ISS, a group of transport modules will head to MARS. Containing the required supplies to get started along with raw minerals and the most advanced 3D and 4D range of printers, This group or brave individuals will be required to create most of their future requirements from these machines. Once they arrive at MARS the transports unit equipped with the LDSD will enter the atmosphere of MARS and guide the transports in to their base configuration location. Each transport has the ability to support its current crew but has the ability to be retrofitted once the Main Base construction is completed and the transport units are linked to each other. Making use of the 3D and 4D printers the colony would then begin to construct Solar Wind break sails around the existing transport modules to create a "Build Zone". Once done Construction on the main base can begin. Designed to be print friendly and of a modular construction method, the modules required that make up the catwalk, Base and Tower can printed and assembled. Now the transports can be converted into different environments as required by the mission co-ordinator. Living Spaces, Waste and Medical facilities a must, however we are not restricted to what is possible in a transport module. Simulated Greenhouse, Experiment facilities and at worst case a liveable isolation chamber for an unexpected medical emergency are feasible fit outs. Additional unmanned transport modules could also come along with some of the larger equipment required immediately upon arrival. The Main Base allows for a large area air lock secured from the harsh environment to preassemble components and maybe store surface vehicles. Suited to sit in the recess in the Gale crater this gives us a good location (which we know about from the Curiosity rover) so we can locate the additional recourse required to be mined to be able to help sustain ongoing martin life on this planet. 3D printing the STL files at a 1:10 scale should work fine Thanks for this challenge! It was a good one!
