Mars Curiosity Rover Wheel Assembly
thingiverse
This model is based on the Mars Curiosity rover's wheel, as it's not likely that many people have access to an actual one. I created this design using pictures and information found online, including Wikipedia. The wheel diameter measures at 500mm, which I used for scaling purposes. Currently, I'm experimenting with different print orientations, support materials, and fit with bolts to ensure a push-fit assembly with minimal effort. While you can print individual parts if desired, expect some challenges during assembly as these models are still in progress. Follow me on Twitter @lilykill1 for updates or join my Thingiverse group at http://www.thingiverse.com/groups/design-to-print/topics to access more models and receive help with modeling tasks like this one. I'm using PLA, a layer thickness of 0.1 mm, a nozzle diameter of 0.3mm and 0 infill for most parts except the hub which has a 60-75% infill.
