Mars Crystal Rover
thingiverse
The Mars Crystal Rover is a multi-piece marvel that can be printed in four vibrant colors. The cockpit, a masterclass in design, should be crafted in hollow mode using translucent filament to maximize its visual impact. At the heart of this innovative concept lies the harsh reality of Martian radiation levels, which are significantly higher than those on Earth due to the planet's lack of a magnetosphere and thick atmosphere. To mitigate this challenge for long-term manned missions, a protective shield made from solid water – or ice – offers a viable solution. This ice shield can be constantly replenished by simply "watering" it, as Mars' sub-freezing temperatures allow huge crystals to grow and repair themselves with ease. In this context, I envision a transportation system where interchangeable cockpits take the form of ice crystals, providing a versatile and sustainable solution for future Martian explorers.
