Mars Base
cults3d
Years ahead of base construction, autonomous solar thermal rovers take charge, smoothing out the terrain and concentrating the sun's rays on the sand, hardening it into a durable glass foundation. The landing module touches down on this solid ground, then unfurls to form the angular geodesic framework. Inflatable rooms are slowly inflated from the lander, made from highly elastic copolymer strands interwoven with synthetic spider silk that remains flexible until coated with a setting agent, at which point they harden into permanent crystalline domes. The hexagonal pockets within these domes are filled with algae, generating electricity in miniature bio-reactors while shielding the interior from scorching heat during the day. As night falls, the bio-luminescent algae illuminates the space, and the gas-filled pockets insulate the base against Mars' frigid nighttime temperatures. The air quality and oxygen levels are meticulously maintained through close monitoring of a large greenhouse with an adjacent food production facility. Human waste is treated in an exterior processing unit to prevent potential accidents, where water is reclaimed for use and the methane produced is stored in tanks to power the base.
