Marquee for Pimoroni Picade (Remix)
thingiverse
I recently stumbled upon a marquee for my Pimoroni Picade that caught my eye, courtesy of Staal3D. However, the dimensions didn't quite match the acrylic that came with the kit, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and redesign it based on my measurements. As part of this project, I also created three LED backlight plates for mounting LED strips and other accessories used for back lighting. There's a solid plate, as well as two honeycomb-patterned plates for cable management and zip ties. The bevel in the back plate can be easily glued into the marquee surround that features a corresponding divot using super glue. For those who won't be utilizing a backlight plate, there's also an option without a divot. I opted to go with the marquee outer frame featuring a divot and the first honeycomb LED backplate for my build. To power this setup, I employed an Adafruit Metro Mini 328 and some NeoPixel Black 60 LED 1m strip, which I cut down to 11 pixels. Using the Arduino IDE and Adafruit library, I coded animations that bring this display to life. To keep everything tidy, I zip-tied the components to the back plate and connected a 1-foot USB cable directly to my Raspberry Pi's USB port. Additionally, I repurposed an extra CanaKit power switch to allow for easy shutdown of the marquee without having to unplug the USB cable. For those interested in replicating this project, I've included the Arduino sketch that I'm currently using, which has been modified from the video example to incorporate more animations.
