Marks K40 Air Assist Mount

Thanks for downloading! Make certain you print the correct one! There are two air assist holders available: 18 mm for the blue aftermarket nozzle and 25 mm for the standard K40 Head. For a year, I used a small aquarium air pump until it finally gave up on me. I then upgraded to a piston version. Any small tube - copper or brass - will work just fine. Here are two mounts for an Air Assist tube. The Tube I used was 4.7 mm, but smaller ones will fit using the set screw. There are two screws needed: one to secure to the head and one to secure the tube. Simply self-thread the screws into the holes. The 18 mm version is designed specifically for the Blue aftermarket head that has an 18 mm shaft after removing the junk nozzle. You won't need the nozzle as the tube will do a much better job. The flat end of this version goes against the rail. The 25 mm version is for the standard head - if you can call anything about the K40 standard. Since there are so many variations on the cheap milling of China products, you may have to use a bit of sandpaper to clear out the hole and fit it properly. You might also need to flatten the side against the rail, but this did fit on my machine. If you don't have a laser pointer, the air assist tube should be about 3 mm above your focal point of contact with the material. At the angle of the tube, the air is injected right at the point of laser contact in the groove. You'll find that you can turn down the power and get better cuts. In some cases, I don't use air assist with cast acrylic - it pushes dust out of the raster areas. It's just a matter of personal preference. I printed these with ABS at 0.2 mm height and on my Mars Pro Resin. Both expand and shrink to heat, which is why I used set screws. I'm not sure how PLA will hold up to the heat.
