Mark's Face
thingiverse
Several years ago, researchers visited and allowed me the honor of using their system to digitize my face. The scan was incredibly high-resolution, consisting of nearly 20M triangles, but failed to capture my hair or overall head shape accurately. Today I experimented with Meshmixer and used it to convert this rough (but detailed) mesh into a much smaller, smoother, and manifold surface that could be 3D printed. This model is significantly decimated from the original high-resolution mesh. I'm unsure why anyone but me would want this data, but I decided to make it available anyway. I believe it to be life-sized, which given my huge head size, may or may not fit on your printer. Enjoy and leave a comment if you use it for anything interesting. Update: I reviewed my notes and discovered that the scan was originally done by my colleagues at Disney Zurich using their system described in a SIGGRAPH 2010 paper. The original scan consisted of around 20M triangles, while this mesh, which I have now printed as shown in the photos I added, was reduced to approximately 100K triangles using Meshmixer.
