Built near to scale, it closely matches the actual general dimensions of the Mark 12 torpedo developed by the US Navy in the 1930s for anti ship battles. This destroyer-launched torpedo was a slower version of the Mark 11 and had a range of several thousand yards with maximum effectiveness at about a mile. Weighing 3505 pounds, it measured 271 inches in length and 21 inches in diameter. Guided by gyroscope and powered by turbines, it could reach speeds between 27-44 knots.
