It's not an easy replica to achieve. I created my own Mario star model because none of the existing ones met my printing requirements. The star consists of two parts that need to be assembled with glue, along with the base and eyes. You have a choice between two star designs - one with a flat edge and another with interlocking male and female parts. It's likely you'll need to adjust the model size to suit your printer's capabilities. I printed my 200mm x 200mm model at 37% scale, making sure all dimensions are consistent. To ensure a smooth print surface, I set the face of the star on the print bed with zero top layer and four bottom layers, along with 0% infill. After that, I painted it with a yellow spray can - I haven't tried using PLA yet, but it might be a simpler option.
