Marine Corps War Memorial
thingiverse
This model commemorates the United States Marine Corps Memorial situated in Arlington National Cemetery. It was designed for Veterans Day 2015, honoring the bravery and dedication of Marines worldwide. The base and statue are distinct components; the statue stands independently if printed at a sufficiently wide resolution. Be cautious when printing, as small lettering on inscriptions might be difficult to decipher with low resolutions or smaller print sizes. Check your model carefully before proceeding with printing. The image depicted is a printed version at 155% capacity, the maximum size that fits within my available printer dimensions. The memorial pays tribute to the historic moment captured in a photograph of Marines lifting the flag on Mount Suribachi during the Iwo Jima conflict in World War II. I designed the base slightly higher than its actual dimension so as to enlarge the inscription sufficiently for clear readability. On the front, it reads: "Uncommon valor was a common virtue" and "Semper Fidelis." The back side displays "In Honor And Memory Of The Men Of The United States Marine Corps Who Have Given Their Lives To Their Country Since 10 November 1775," accompanied by the USMC logo. Notably, the real-life memorial incorporates comprehensive listings of major combat operations undertaken by the USMC; these were omitted in this model for simplicity. The statue was adapted from modified clip art images. Additionally, I have created a smaller replica that can be printed at standard size without concerns about legibility. This miniature model accommodates within the palm of your hand and features an uncomplicated base inscribed with "Semper Fidelis" and the USMC logo.
