The connecting rod links the crosshead and crankshaft, transferring firing force while converting reciprocating motion into rotation. Crafted from drop forged steel, older engines feature a Marine Palm—a flange at the rod's base that bolts to the split bottom end (crankpin) bearing. At the top, two crosshead bearings are secured via another formed flange.
