This sculpture of Marie Leszczyńska is a masterpiece created by the skilled hands of Guillaume Coustou the Elder. Marie Leszczyńska, renowned as Queen Marie of France, held the title of queen consort to King Louis XV of France. Born to King Stanisław I of Poland and Catherine Opalińska, she would later become the grandmother of three French monarchs: Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, and Charles X. With a tenure that lasted for many years, Marie Leszczyńska remains the longest-serving queen consort in French history. Guillaume Coustou the Elder, born on November 29, 1677, in Lyon, France, was a talented sculptor and academician who left an indelible mark on the world of art. As the younger brother of Nicolas Coustou, another accomplished French sculptor, Guillaume learned the intricacies of his craft from his mother's brother, Antoine Coysevox. Employed by two successive French monarchs, Louis XIV and Louis XV, Guillaume Coustou the Elder demonstrated his unwavering dedication to his art form.
