Maria Madre de la Paz - Mary Mother of Peace
thingiverse
This is a project that was assigned to me by a friend who is a priest. He did not found any person who made replicas of images like this, so he wanted to see if 3D printing could help him. I used Reality Capture and took 700 photos with my cellphone. I used darktable to edit those images so I could extract more details. Meshroom did not work well for me and the good thing about reality capture is that you do not pay anything until you want to export. And the results I saw were excellent. I used blender for reducing and smoothing the mesh. I also removed the star crown that mary has is her head and the other "crown-like" thing that jesus christ has in his head. I was going to have a hard time printing those and the idea is to paint the replicas, so I removed them so they could be made in metal or other material that is more resistant. I also added some details and fixed all the important mesh holes. I did not apply more smoothing because I like that texture and also I would have removed a lot of details. I added more details in the fingers of the hands and toes. Also removed a lot of overhangs that could be a pain in the ass while printing. There are quite a few, but tree supports will take care of them. The real image is 55 centimetres tall and the replicas I am going to print are 50 centimetres tall. I have already printed smaller replicas and they look really nice, but some details are not present there. This is my first time using RealityCapture and Blender. I hope you like this.
