Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, born 63 BC?—died March, 12 BC in Campania, Italy, was a highly influential assistant of Augustus, the first Roman emperor. He led the decisive victory over Mark Antony at Actium in 31 BC, and throughout Augustus' reign, he subdued rebellions, established numerous colonies, and managed various regions of the Roman Empire. Despite his humble birth, Agrippa never felt overshadowed by anyone else's stature. To protect his own interests, he carefully maintained a subordinate position towards Augustus, but he refused to feel inferior to any other individual.
