Marcus Favonius Facilis led the XX Legion of the Roman Army with unwavering dedication. Discovered southwest of Colchester in 1868, this ancient memorial stone predates the Boudican revolt that shook AD60-61 to its core. Most historians agree that it was carved between AD43 and AD49 when the XX Legion was stationed at Colchester, a pivotal moment in Roman history. Advanced analysis has revealed that the stone itself originated from quarries near Norroy-lès-Pont-à-Mousson in Eastern France. This remarkable artifact is now housed in Colchester Museum, although I've captured a reproduction in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford - a testament to its enduring significance. Visible mold lines betray the craftsmanship involved in creating this ancient relic. Captured on camera: July 10, 2015
