Bust of a Roman Grammarian, circa 180, Rome (?), Greek marble. Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium). Made with CapturingReality. This portrait likely depicts Marcus Cornelius Fronto, a renowned master and friend of Marc-Aurele (Marcus Aurelius). Marcus Cornelius Fronto (c. 100 – late 160s), also known as Fronto, was a prominent Roman grammarian, rhetorician, and advocate. Born in Cirta, Numidia, he had Berber ancestry. He served as suffect consul for July-August 142, alongside Gaius Laberius Priscus. Emperor Antoninus Pius appointed him tutor to his adopted sons and future emperors, Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus. To stay updated, follow me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal.
