Marcus Aurelius stands proudly atop his equestrian statue in the Capitol, a testament to his enduring legacy as a Roman leader from 170-180 AD. His imposing figure is now housed in the Royal Cast collection at the Copenhagen Museum in Denmark. The illustrious emperor ruled Rome with distinction from 161 to 180 AD, sharing power with Lucius Verus until Verus' untimely death in 169 AD. As the last of the so-called Five Good Emperors, Marcus Aurelius left an indelible mark on Roman history. During his reign, the Empire achieved a resounding victory over the revitalized Parthian Empire in the East, with Avidius Cassius leading the charge and sacking the capital Ctesiphon in 164 AD. In central Europe, Marcus Aurelius successfully battled the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians during the Marcomannic Wars, but the ever-present threat of Germanic tribes cast a shadow over the Empire's future. A revolt led by Avidius Cassius in the East was swiftly suppressed, demonstrating Marcus Aurelius' unwavering resolve to maintain order.
