Marcus Aurelius ruled as Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD with Lucius Verus by his side until Verus' death in 169. He was the last of the Five Good Emperors and a renowned Stoic philosopher. The Empire's victory over the Parthian Empire in the East, led by Avidius Cassius, marked a significant milestone during Aurelius' reign. In central Europe, he successfully fought against the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians, but faced growing threats from Germanic tribes. Avidius Cassius' failed revolt in the East was swiftly suppressed, demonstrating Aurelius' strength as a leader. His philosophical tome, Meditations, written in Greek during his campaigns between 170 and 180 AD, remains a timeless literary masterpiece. This work offers practical guidance on finding inner peace amidst turmoil by drawing inspiration from nature.
