Marching Band Bass Drum 20"
thingiverse
I designed a 20-inch marching band base drum using SolidWorks, working from the actual drum's diameter and scaling it down to 10%. The design was created in SolidWorks. I used an exploded view for clarity. To print the drum, I sliced the model in Slic8r with 1.75mm PLA filament, a bed temperature of 70°C, and a hotend temperature of 210°C. Two bottom layers were printed on each part: one for the hooks and shell, and two outside layers. This approach worked well, as the caps fit together nicely. However, I noticed that one cap was slightly tighter than the other. Nevertheless, both caps stayed in place without falling out or requiring glue. The hooks clipped in nicely too. I printed all three parts – hooks, shell, and caps – separately to achieve a color scheme of white caps and a black drum. This also allowed me to print the hooks and shell with zero bottom layers.
