This stunning marble vase showcases the Romans' innovative reinterpretation of Greek art that they skillfully emulated. It meticulously replicates a bronze krater, an ancient vessel originally used at vibrant Greek drinking gatherings (symposia) to hold wine infused with water. The design was cleverly reused as a striking garden feature in a luxurious villa at Stabiae, a tranquil rest-town near Pompeii, where it was unearthed. Intricately carved decorations depict Bacchantes (followers of the wine god Bacchus) in a lively dance, a scene all too familiar to the locals. This remarkable object is part of "Scan The World".
