Marble Statuette of a Girl

Marble Statuette of a Girl

myminifactory

The girl sports two layers of exquisitely rumpled drapery, the outer one with folds carefully gathered and stitched to a neckband. On each arm rests a snaking spiral bracelet. She had pulled up her outer garment to cradle within its folds a small animal, likely a cherished pet or an offering to the gods. In ancient Greek art, such statues of young children were often crafted for funerary or votive purposes. Due to their irresistible charm, they were frequently duplicated for decorative use during Roman times.
