Marble Portrait Bust of Matidia at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
myminifactory
Numerous portraits of this young woman with a crescent-shaped hairpiece adorned with a unique looped design have been discovered in various locations throughout the Empire. She bears a striking resemblance to Sabina, wife of Emperor Hadrian, but is likely her older sister, Matidia the Younger. This bust features partial coverage from the same dark sinter as that of Sabina. Due to burial conditions, ancient sculptures often exhibit heavy incrustation on some areas and an almost pristine surface on others. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital repository of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access at no cost. "Scan The World" is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items nearby and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can participate. Scanned using photogrammetry and processed with Agisoft PhotoScan.
