Carved marble-footed hut pyxis boasts sides covered with horizontal incised encircling grooves. Paired pierced lug handles are also present, adding a distinctive touch. The majority of other examples made from chlorite schist stand out from this unique piece. A large hole at the bottom of the pyxis may have been deliberately created as part of a ritual 'killing' act (curator's comments, Fitton, J. L., 1999, Cycladic Art, second edition, London: BMP, pp. 72-73, fig. 77). This object is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access at no cost. Scan The World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items nearby and want to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can assist. Scanned using Photogrammetry (Processed with Agisoft PhotoScan).
