The Marble head of Herakles, a Roman sculpture from the Imperial era (1st century A.D.), is currently displayed in Gallery 162 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This artwork is a copy of a Greek statue from the second half of the 4th century B.C., attributed to Lysippos. In the statue, Herakles is depicted close to exhaustion after completing his twelve labors for Eurystheus. The powerful physique contrasts with the weary stance, emphasized in the finely rendered noble head, which is bowed due to fatigue. Accession Number: 27.122.18; Credit Line: Fletcher Fund, 1927.
