Marble Head of Apollo at The British Museum, London
myminifactory
This magnificent marble head of Apollo was unearthed in the primary sculpture deposit north of the northwest peribolos wall approximately 350BC. The head is carved on a scale situated between colossal portraits and intermediate-sized sculptures. It's possible that this god was paired with a series of dynastic portraits of indeterminate scale, as deities were frequently depicted larger than mortals. The lively upward tilt of the head and the twist of the neck indicate that the figure to which this head belonged was in motion. This remarkable object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, where we are creating a comprehensive digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access at no cost.
