Marble head of Aphrodite
myminifactory
This striking marble head of Aphrodite was unearthed in 2000 near the northern walls of Amathous, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and serving as a rare exemplar of Hellenistic marble sculpture found on the island of Cyprus. The sculpted head, carved from a single block of white marble, would have been secured to the missing body with a metal fastener. The smooth surfaces and the gentle expression on the face, the half-closed eyes with a distant stare, and the soft smile are distinctive characteristics of Hellenistic Aphrodite sculptures that follow in the tradition set by Praxiteles' iconic Aphrodite of Knidos.
