This exquisite marble tombstone honoring 13-week-old Verginia W. Quarterman stands proudly alongside her grandparents' headstones at the historic Quarterman South Cemetery (8BR2356). This quaint family burial ground is one of eight heritage settlement interment sites on the present-day Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Our USF Libraries DHHC team utilized 3D terrestrial laser scanning, imaging, and geophysical methods to meticulously document above-ground and below-surface features and anomalies, verifying burial counts and locations, and contributing to the digital preservation of the monuments and markers that commemorate this early coastal settlers on Florida's East Coast. The intricate floral designs and premium marble material underscore the profound grief and sense of loss felt for this young life.
