Hadrian, born on January 24, 76 AD, died July 10, 138 AD, ruled Rome from 117 to 138 AD. He restored the Pantheon and built the Temple of Venus and Roma. Hadrian is also famous for constructing Hadrian's Wall, which marked the northern boundary of Britannia. Many view him as a humanist and philhellene in his personal tastes. He is considered one of the Five Good Emperors. Hadrian was born Publius Aelius Hadrianus into a Roman family from Hispania with partial Italian ancestry. His birthplace is disputed, but it's widely accepted that he came from a family with deep roots in Hispania dating back centuries. Trajan, his predecessor, was a maternal cousin of Hadrian's father and never officially named an heir. According to Trajan's wife Pompeia Plotina, he designated Hadrian as emperor just before his death. Trajan's wife and friend Licinius Sura were supportive of Hadrian, which may have helped secure his succession. This object is part of the "Scan The World" project.
