Maple tree fruits, containing seeds and fall samaras, drop from great heights. To reproduce, the tree has a tandem-winged "helicopter" system for the samaras to spin and drift with the wind as they fall. Fruits can fall in pairs, each with two seeds and samaras or just one seed-wing, both systems working effectively. The tandem system offers a less steep landing angle. The seed weight ensures a gentle descent assisted by these wings. The rotation is so efficient that even on the ground, the samaras continue to spin, ensuring the "eggs" remain intact after multiple flights.
