Maple or cherry wood knife handle
sketchfab
From the recovery of the Mary Rose, a Tudor warship that sank during the Battle of the Solent in 1545. This beautifully crafted wooden item is one of a pair of matching knife handles that would have been attached on either side of a blade. The metal pins where they were secured have rusted away over time, leaving only the wood behind. Approximately 20 of these delicate carvings were discovered on the wreck site. This artifact and many others like it, including a carpenter's skull, were meticulously recreated using photogrammetry and are now available to view at www.VirtualTudors.org. If you have an interest in osteology or know someone who does, please consider contributing to our research project by signing up through the "Research" tab on the website. We extend our gratitude to www.MaryRose.org for their invaluable assistance.
