The Acer tree model was carefully crafted within 3ds Max 2017, showcasing exceptional precision and detail. Its conversion to FBX and Obj formats came with the inclusion of three materials that added a rich visual dimension to the overall structure: one defined the rugged trunk, while two others beautifully rendered the delicate leaves that adorn it. These leaf materials were particularly impressive, featuring an alpha channel and boasting resolutions as high as 10,000x10,000 pixels, resulting in breathtaking realism. In sharp contrast, textures for the trunk had to settle for significantly lower resolutions at a mere 8,192x8,192 pixels, despite this not compromising its captivating presence. Breaking down its component parts reveals a model of staggering complexity, boasting an impressive 350,000 triangles. This immense density owes in large part to its elaborate geometry, carefully shaped to ensure the trunk remained fully unwrapped with nary an overlap. Upon closer inspection, the leaves prove fascinating: comprising two separate meshes positioned on top of each other at exactly the same spot, these dual leaf formations serve to effectively create a singular illusion when observed. It is even suggested that eliminating the internal mesh - if one desired a drastic reduction in polycount – would require modifying the associated material for its leaf surface so that it exhibited doublesided qualities, further increasing visual density within the leaf area.
