This is a photoscan of a sculpture made by my grandfather. When I first found out about protogrammetry I really wanted to try doing this but I didn't know what to scan! I walked around the house looking for fitting objects but with no real success. A day later when I was in the backyard my eyes fell upon this mossy-overgrown sculpture my grandfather made a very long time ago. It has been in our backyard since forever and to my surprise it was still in a perfectly good condition considering it has been outside for at least the eighteen years that I've lived. It seemed like the perfect object for me to try and scan for the first time. This whole process was much easier than I had thought. The 98 photos I had taken of the sculpture resulted in a beautiful and almost flawless model after processing in Meshroom. However the model was much too detailed, wasn't solid and had to be scaled correctly. I fixed this using Blender and my computer didn't like doing that at all! The next time my grandparents came over I surprised my grandfather with this miniature white replica of the sculpture he made so many years ago. He and my grandmother really liked it! I had also modified and printed different versions of the model such as a low-poly and organic-looking one.  My grandparents actually happened to like the organic one the most since it looked like it could belong in a modern-art museum to them. They asked me if I could maybe print that one again for them, but bigger this time. And so I did. I made it exactly as tall as the original and it printed phenomenally well over the course of about ~20 hours. It however did require some support material which was a real pain to remove since some were stuck inside of the model! They were extremely happy with how the scaled up print turned out and it now has a nice place on top of the piano in their modern-themed livingroom. Quite the conversation starter apperently :)   Uncompressed model and textures on Wetransfer Model on Sketchfab Some more images on Imgur   If I were to win this competition I wouldn't know where I want to travel. Especially now with the whole pandemic going on. I rather stay back home and spend time with the people I care about.
