Mandelbulb - Polygon Fractal - 3D Fractal
thingiverse
Hi there, here is another 3D Fractal. It's pretty hard to grasp the shape on one or two photos. Have a look at the .stl file to get a real feeling for the shape. Fractals seem to me like Rohrschach tests, everybody can see something different in them, like in the ink blobs. ______________________________________________________________________ Design The Fractal is made with - Mandelbulb 3D get this fascinating piece of opensource software at: https://www.mandelbulb.com/ Julius Horsthuis, Hal Tenny and Don Whitaker have many good Tutorials (Video & Blog) to get started with Mandelbulb. - It is exported with "BTracer" as .obj with a volumetric resolution of 600 x 600 x 600, this is so high because only this way you get really sharp edges. Postprocess The postprocess is done with Meshmixer and Blender. Meshmixer: - Scale the model to the size you like - Add a horizontal plane cut to have a plane surface for printing - Reduce at least by 50% The last tep is optional, but I like to do it. To reduce the Triangle count and smooth ot the surface I take the model to Blender. - Use the decimate modifier to get the triangle count further down. For some reason sharp edges get preserved better in Blender when reducing the amount of triangels drastically. At least I llike the results in Blender much more. If you dare you can use the smooth modifier, but be really careful with the parameters. Finally export your model and sclice it. That's it. Leave me some feedback and please post your makes.
