Mandalorian Darksaber Split by Color
thingiverse
The Mandalorian Darksaber model designed by Polymath314 is gorgeous and I wanted to print it with the right color filaments to avoid painting anything so I split it up. The biggest challenge was setting up the hilt so the gray stripes were separated from the black areas but would still be easy enough to print. I managed to get it all to fit just right for me, but I wonder how well the tolerances work for other people. - This split model allows you to print a full color Darksaber without painting if you have filaments in the colors of black, dark gray, silver, and white. If painting is your preference, the split parts make it easier. - Use supports for Upper Section 5, Emitter Section, Guard split, and Pommel. - I printed everything at .15mm layer height. - Upper Section 6 has a removable support fin and brim at the bottom to help with bed ahdesion footprint. Use pliers to tear it off and file/sand it clean. When inserting it into Upper Section 5, you need to slightly wedge it into the slot and it will fall into place as it goes. - For the tall Upper Section parts: if brims are used or if elephant foot occurs, file/sand down the bottom edges to ensure they are smoothly round and fit snugly with the adjacent parts. While it technically isn't required for all of them, I also enabled supports to keep the rounded bottoms of these sections from warping up too much. - The Lower Rings have a tiny hole on the side that need to face up when stacking them. - Special thanks to Polymath314 for sharing this awesome model! The filaments I used were all PLA: Eryone carbon black, Ziro dark gray, Ziro silk silver, and unknown brand white.
