Manatee Humerus Bone - High Resolution Scan
thingiverse
This is a scan of a real Florida manatee (family Trichechidae, genus Trichechus) humerus, which serves as an arm bone. Manatees are the official state mammal of Florida and are currently listed as an endangered species. This specimen is on loan to me from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and is carefully maintained at the Department of Anthropology at Indiana University South Bend. Most manatee bones consist entirely of solid cortical bone, giving them a high density. Since manatees have evolved their arms into flippers, the upper arm and forearm bones exhibit an unusual shape. This specimen measures approximately 8 inches in length and is a juvenile female. You can print it in parts or scale it down to fit your bed. It was scanned using a NextEngine scanner. Print this unique and rare specimen for educational purposes, use it as a teaching tool, or simply educate yourself about zoology. If you use this scan for any purpose other than personal, please provide proper attribution. This scan is not intended for commercial use. Please post a photo of your printed manatee humerus to share with others. Check out my other scans of skulls and bones at http://www.thingiverse.com/dricketts/designs.
