Manatee Humerus Bone - High Resolution Scan
pinshape
Summary This is a scan of a genuine Florida manatee (family Trichechidae, genus Trichechus) humerus (upper arm bone). Manatees are the official state mammal of Florida, and they are an endangered species in dire need of protection. This particular specimen was generously loaned to me by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and is currently being curated at the Department of Anthropology at Indiana University South Bend. Most manatee bones exhibit a high level of density due to their solid cortical composition. Since manatees' arms have evolved into flippers, the upper arm and forearm bones display an unusual shape. This juvenile female specimen measures approximately 8 inches in length. It can be printed in sections or scaled down to fit your bed. Scanned using NextEngine technology. Printing this rare and unique specimen will provide a valuable learning opportunity, allowing you to educate yourself about zoology. If you choose to use this file for any purpose other than personal, please ensure proper attribution by contacting me directly. Commercial use is strictly prohibited.
