Man wearing a toga at The Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto
myminifactory
Roman citizens wore elaborate garments known as togas. Made from thick woolen fabric, these robes served as a uniform, always donned in public during civic and religious ceremonies. They unmistakably signified the social standing of a male Roman citizen. Here, a gold ringlet on the sculpture's chest clearly indicates that the subject is an adolescent. He wears a toga praetexta, distinguished by its purple border. This type of tunic was typically worn by freeborn boys until they reached adulthood and possibly by girls until they became marriageable age. This object is part of "Scan The World".
