This poignant tomb monument depicts a man lost in sorrow on a boat, embodying the distinctive imagery of late Romanticism's notable figures. The Kerepesy Cemetery stands as Budapest's most renowned burial ground. As one of Hungary's oldest cemeteries, it has been remarkably preserved in its entirety. Established in 1847, the cemetery's first interment took place two years later, in 1849. Since then, a plethora of Hungarian luminaries (statesmen, writers, sculptors, architects, artists, composers, scientists, actors, and actresses) have been laid to rest there, many within elaborate tombs or mausoleums. This trend was fueled by the municipal authorities' decision to designate Kerepesi as an 'honour ground' in 1885.
