Kale 3.yüzyılda Romalılar tarafından Akdeniz ve Kilikya ticaret yollarını gözetlemek ve ticaret gemilerini korsanlardan korumak amacıyla inşa edilmiştir. Zaman içerisinde tahriplere ve yıkılıma uğrayan kale, 12. yüzyıl’da Kilikya Ermeni Krallığı döneminde tekrar onarılmıştır. Kale 1450 yılında Karamanoğulları Beyliği döneminde bölge beyi Karamanoğlu Mahmut Bey tarafından onarılmış ve kaleye Mamure(müreffeh) ismi verilmiştir. Ayrıca Mahmut Bey, kale içinde 1300-1308 yılları arasında bir camii inşa ettirmiştir. Kale 1469 yılında Osmanlı Devleti’nin eline geçmiştir. Ayrıca bir camii inşa ettirmiştir. Kale 1469 yılında Osmanlı Devleti’nin eline geçmiştir. The castle was built by the Romans in the third century to protect the trade routes of the Mediterranean and Cilicia, as well as the merchant ships from pirates. Over time, the castle was damaged and destroyed, but it was rebuilt during the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia period in the 12th century. In 1450, Karamanoglu Mahmut Bey renovated the castle and gave it the name Mamure. He also built a mosque inside the castle between 1300-1308. The castle fell into Ottoman hands in 1469. The castle was constructed by the Romans in the third century to safeguard the Mediterranean and Cilician trade routes, as well as merchant vessels from pirates. In time, the castle suffered damage and destruction, but it was restored during the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia period in the twelfth century. Karamanoglu Mahmut Bey renovated the castle in 1450 and bestowed upon it the name Mamure. He also commissioned a mosque to be built within the castle between 1300-1308. The castle came under Ottoman control in 1469.
