Mammoth refers to any species of the extinct Mammuthus genus, part of the proboscidean order that includes trunked mammals. Mammoths were equipped with long curved tusks and a covering of long hair in northern species. They existed from around 5 million years ago during the Pliocene epoch into the Holocene at about 4,000 years ago. Various species thrived in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. Mammoths belonged to the Elephantidae family, which also includes modern elephant genera and their ancestors. A juvenile Shropshire mammoth's left scapula is depicted here. Although it shows some damage from its excavation process, this specimen is generally in excellent condition. A Canon 5DS R camera was used with a Stackshot 3x and turntable to capture 180 images. These were then processed at high levels using Agisoft Photoscan. This object was scanned by Fossils in Shropshire.
