Magnum bone from adult Shropshire Mammoth on display. The magnum is a bone located in the wrist of humans or in this case, the left front foot of the mammoth. The Shropshire Mammoth was any species of the extinct genus Mammuthus, one of the many genera that make up the order of trunked mammals known as proboscideans. Various species of mammoths were commonly equipped with long, curved tusks and a covering of long hair in northern species. They lived from the Pliocene epoch (from around 5 million years ago) into the Holocene at about 4,000 years ago. Mammoths existed in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. Members of the family Elephantidae also contain the two genera of modern elephants and their ancestors. This image was captured using a Canon 5DS R camera and Stackshot 3x with turntable to provide 108 images which were then processed using Agisoft Photoscan at high levels. This object is scanned by Fossils in Shropshire.
