Mammoth left cuboid bone
myminifactory
Left cuboid bone of the adult Shropshire Mammoth. The cuboid is a bone in the foot, specifically from the left hind leg of this massive creature. The term "mammoth" refers to any species of the extinct genus Mammuthus, which belongs to the order of trunked mammals known as proboscideans. These ancient animals were equipped with long, curved tusks and, in some northern species, a thick coat of hair. They roamed the earth from the Pliocene epoch, roughly 5 million years ago, into the Holocene era, around 4,000 years ago. Fossils of mammoths have been discovered on multiple continents, including Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. These creatures were part of the family Elephantidae, which also includes modern elephants and their ancestors. This remarkable object was captured using a Canon 5DS R camera, combined with a Stackshot 3x and turntable to create 108 images. These images were then processed using Agisoft Photoscan at high levels to produce an incredibly detailed scan. The Shropshire Mammoth's fossil record is now preserved for future generations through the efforts of Fossils in Shropshire.
