Left leg of the ancient adult Mammoth, a Shropshire specimen. A mammoth is any species of the extinct Mammuthus genus, part of the vast proboscidean order that includes trunked mammals. The various mammoth species were commonly equipped with long, curved tusks and thick coats of hair in northern populations. They thrived from the Pliocene epoch (around 5 million years ago) to the Holocene era at about 4,000 years ago, with several species existing in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. These ancient creatures belonged to the Elephantidae family, which also includes modern elephant genera and their ancestors. Imaged using a high-resolution Canon EOS 5DS R camera and a Stackshot 3x with turntable to capture 108 images, which were then processed using Agisoft Photoscan at advanced levels for detailed results.
