Mammoth Juvenile Humerus
myminifactory
Left humerus of one of the juvenile Shropshire Mammoths, discovered at Condover, Shropshire. A mammoth is any species of the extinct genus Mammuthus, part of the diverse order of trunked mammals known as proboscideans. The various mammoth species were often equipped with long, curved tusks and a thick coat of hair in northern regions. They roamed from the Pliocene epoch (approximately 5 million years ago) into the Holocene era about 4,000 years ago, and different species thrived in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. As members of the Elephantidae family, mammoths share a common ancestry with modern elephants and their relatives. Imaged using an Artec spider scanner and processed through Artec studio 12 software. This object was scanned by Fossils in Shropshire.
